Creepy Paintings.

Every now and then I take a spin through my various repositories with an eye towards combining them and usually get side tracked by something I haven't touched in years.  The latest wrong turn found me wandering around in a dark and primitive time: 2007.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (or, more accurately, 3 years ago about 2 blocks away) I finally got around to watching Minority Report.  After deciding that the computer interfaces were cool I thought I'd see how hard it'd be to make something similar in Flash using that new-fangled ActionScript 3 stuff.  Turns out, it's not really that hard at all.  Having figured out step 1, everything else fell into place in my head and I quickly lost interest, banishing the whole thing into the dark recesses of /var/local/svn.  Until now.

A few days ago I signed up for a Media Temple VPS and, in the process of moving my various domains over, thought I'd replace the nothing that most of them have with slightly more interesting nothings.  First on the chopping block was degeneratecoder.com.  I can't remember why I bought this domain (well, actually, I can) but, given my recent find, I decided that it needed a creepy picture whose eyes watched you via your webcam, kind of like your own private Scooby Doo.

Some quick Google Image searches for various iterations of creepy and painting yielded the knife wielding baby, a quick bit of animating in Flash and the end result can be seen here: http://www.degeneratecoder.com.  For those of you using Apples who haven't used your webcam in Flash before, you might have to go into your settings and tell it to use USB Video Device (or something similar) instead of the default FireWire (IIRC).

I might add more paintings to it in the future, but for now I think it's pretty damned cool.  And creepy.
